2023 Announcement

Sport BOP has made the difficult decision not to proceed with the 2023 event as we review the feasibility and structure of the Forsyth Barr Bay of Plenty Sports Awards going forward.

What a night! On Friday 25 November, 2022, we celebrated Bay of Plenty sporting stars.

At the Rotorua Energy Events Centre, we recognised the great achievements of our local athletes, teams, coaches, and officials.

Craig Kirkwood took home the Supreme Award on the night. See below for all finalists and winners of the 2022 Forsyth Barr Bay of Plenty Sports Awards.

 

2022 Award categories

Secondary School Boys' Team of the Year

Open to boys' Secondary School teams who have performed to exceptional standards through the year.

Finalists

  • John Paul College Senior Boys Adventure Race Team
  • Trident High School Boys Hockey Team
  • Tauranga Boys’ College 1st XI Football Team - Winner

Criteria

Secondary School Girls' Team of the Year

Open to girls' Secondary School teams who have performed to exceptional standards through the year.

Finalists

  • Rotorua Girls’ High School Junior Basketball Team
  • Trident High School Premier Netball Teams
  • Ōtūmoetai College Girls Squash Team - Winner

Criteria

Club of the Year

Open to all clubs, sub associations and centres that have competed successfully, shown an outstanding ability to provide for its members and contributed to the community.

  • BOP Sports Climbing Association
  • Judea Rugby Club
  • Otumoetai Football Club - Winner

Criteria

Coach of the Year

Open to any predominately volunteer coach who has excelled in one or more sports.

  • Marcus Howie - Rugby Union
  • Craig Kirkwood - Triathlon - Winner

Criteria

Official of the Year

Open to any voluntary official, referee or umpire who has excelled in one or more sports.

Team of the Year

Open to non-professional teams that have performed to exceptional standards during the year.

Criteria

Young Sportswoman of the Year

Open to any young sportswoman aged between of 15 and 21 years as at 01 October 2022 who has excelled in one or more sports.

Open to any young sportsman aged between of 15 and 21 years as at 01 October 2022 who has excelled in one or more sports.

Open to any individual volunteer/sport administrator who has provided outstanding service to sport within the regional sport landscape for a significant period of time (5 years+). All nominations must be submitted by the Regional Sports Organisation.

The Innovation in Sport and Recreation Award includes innovative individuals or organisations that have made a significant contribution to the field of sport due to any pioneering initiative they have created and undertaken.

Sportsman of the Year

Open to any male 21 years of age and over who has excelled in one or more sports.
