Acorn Foundation Athlete Scholarships 2024/2025

Sport Bay of Plenty is proud to partner with the Acorn Foundation to recognise the sporting talent of our junior athletes found in the Western Bay of Plenty. The scholarships are designed to assist high achieving athletes in their development and international competition.
ELIGIBILITY
Athlete - Any young athlete residing in the Western Bay of Plenty aged 16–23 at the time of application, who has achieved national representation at their sport. The successful winner will be continuing in their chosen sport and will be able to outline their pathway towards international competitions. No funding will be provided retrospectively.
Note - Qualification requires athletes to be studying, training or working in the BOP region. Athletes at university outside of the Bay of Plenty do not qualify for this scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP VALUE
Acorn Foundation Christine Tustain Sports Award
This scholarship has a total value of $2,000. This scholarship has been kindly donated by Christine Tustain through the Acorn Foundation and will be awarded in March of each year. The scholarship may be awarded to one successful recipient or may be split between no more than two successful recipients.
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must submit a sporting curriculum vitae of achievements in sport.
- Applicants must submit a personal statement.
- Applicants must submit a reference from either one of their coaches, mentors or education providers.
- Scholarships must be for sporting competition/educational or development purposes, with the ultimate aim to compete at international level.
- Applications will be assessed by Sport BOP in the first instance, with the final decision being made by the Acorn Foundation/Donor.
- Successful applicants may be asked to assist Sport Bay of Plenty and/or the Acorn Foundation with promotional material.
- Regular updates of progress towards desired outcomes will be expected.
- Level of scholarships will be considered depending on the event, priority will be given in order to Olympic Qualification, World Championships (senior), Commonwealth Games, World Champs (junior), New Zealand Event Representation, Development Tour Events, New Zealand Secondary School events.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Applications close on April 5 2024
- At the close of applications Sport Bay of Plenty and the Acorn Foundation will determine a “short list”
- If required Sport Bay of Plenty will contact athletes to interview
- Successful applicants will be confirmed and notified by Sport Bay of Plenty
- Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by Sport Bay of Plenty
