Acorn Foundation Athlete Scholarships

These scholarships recognise the sporting talent of our junior athletes found within the Western Bay of Plenty and are designed to assist high achieving people towards athlete development in international competition.

ELIGIBILITY

Any young athlete in the Western Bay of Plenty Region aged 16 – under 23 at the time of application who have achieved national representation at their sport. Applicants are required to be currently residing in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Note - qualification requires athletes to be studying, training or working in the Western BOP region. Athletes at university outside of the Bay of Plenty do not qualify for this scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP VALUE

Acorn Foundation Christine Tustain Sports Award

This scholarship has been kindly donated by Christine Tustain through the Acorn Foundation and will be awarded to two Western Bay of Plenty based athlete(s) annually. The value is $1000 for each athlete.

Acorn Foundation Rob & Carolyn Port Sports Award

This scholarship has been kindly donated by Rob and Carolyn Port through the Acorn Foundation and will be awarded to one or two Western Bay of Plenty based athlete(s) annually. The value is to be announced and applications will open in October.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must submit a sporting curriculum vitae of achievements in sport
  • Must attend an interview of the scholarship committee if required
  • The scholarship will be conditional on the athlete meeting the eligibility criteria outlined above
  • Scholarships must be for sporting competition/educational/equipment expenses
  • Applications will be assessed by a committee comprising the minimum of one representative from both Sport Bay of Plenty and the Acorn Foundation
  • Successful applicants may be asked to assist Sport Bay of Plenty/Acorn Foundation with promotional / role model or similar opportunities
  • Regular updates of progress towards desired outcomes will be expected
  • Level of scholarships will be considered depending on the event, priority will be given in order to Olympic Qualification, World Championships (senior), Commonwealth Games, World Champs (junior), New Zealand Event Representation, Development Tour Events, New Zealand Secondary School events.

APPLICATION PROCESS

There are two rounds of applications in a calendar year. At the close of applications a short listed group of athletes may be required to attend an interview with representatives of Sport Bay of Plenty and the Acorn Foundation. All applicants will be notified whether they have been successful or not.

BayTrust Athlete Scholarships

These scholarships recognise sporting talent within the Bay of Plenty and are designed to assist high achieving junior athletes with athlete development in international competition. *

ELIGIBILITY

Athlete: Any young athlete of the Bay of Plenty aged 16 to under 23 years at the time of application, residing in the region covered by the BayTrust and Sport Bay of Plenty, who have been selected for a New Zealand Representative squad or team in their chosen sport.

Athletes with Disabilities: Any athlete with a disability, of the Bay of Plenty, residing in the region covered by the BayTrust and Sport Bay of Plenty, who are a current member of a New Zealand Representative squad or team.

*Qualification requires athletes to be permanently living in the BOP region at the time of application. Athletes at university outside of the Bay of Plenty do not qualify for this scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP VALUE

These will be up to the value of $500 and will be awarded as a contribution towards travel only. The scholarships will be dependant on level of competition, costs associated with competition entry and travel requirements. Accommodation costs do not qualify.

 

BayTrust Coach/Officials Development Scholarships

These scholarships recognise the coaching and officiating volunteers within the Bay of Plenty community. They are designed to assist coaches and officials, who contribute and add value to their sport in the BOP, to further develop their skills ie: obtain a formal qualification, and it is envisaged that the development opportunity of the coach or official should have a significant impact on or be passed onto their respective communities past completion.

ELIGIBILITY

Coach: Any person residing permanently in the region covered by the BayTrust and Sport Bay of Plenty who is currently coaching and has a formal qualification at a recognised and endorsed level by their respective National / Regional Sporting Organisation or equivalent body.

Official: Any person residing permanently in the region covered by the BayTrust and Sport Bay of Plenty who is currently refereeing / umpiring / officiating at a recognised and endorsed level by their respective National / Regional Sporting Organisation or equivalent body.
