Play Week 2026 – Whānau play where whānau are Play Week is a Sport NZ initiative that celebrates tamariki and their right to play.This years theme is 'Whānau play where whānau are' which reminds us of the play that can happen in parks, community spaces, neighbourhood streets or backyards. So, parents, whānau, schools, and communities, this challenge is for you! Show us how you’re enabling play by giving tamariki the time, space, and permission to explore, imagine, move, and connect in ways that bring them joy. Whether it’s climbing trees, creating games, playing sport, or simply mucking around with friends – play is how tamariki learn, grow, and thrive. Let’s work together to protect and promote play in our everyday lives – Play doesn't need fancy equipment or big budgets to make a lasting impact. Sometimes all it takes is an invitation to play!
