Introducing Will Stewart

Sport Bay of Plenty is pleased to share that William Stewart (Will) has been settling into his new role as Tumu Kaihonohono Strategic Māori Partnerships Manager, a position he began in late September. This role is a key part of our ongoing commitment to deepen relationships with Māori communities across the Bay of Plenty and enhance the impact of our work through a Te Ao Māori lens.

Will, who has whakapapa connections to Bay of Plenty iwi Ngāti Awa, Te Whānau a Apanui and Ngāti Ranginui brings a wealth of experience to Sport Bay of Plenty. Will’s career includes a diverse range of roles that focus on cross-cultural collaboration, relationship-building, and strategic development.

He has previously served as a Director for Ngāti Awa Tourism and currently represents his hapū on Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa. Additionally, Will has spent the past 15 years running his own consultancy, Mauriora Consulting in Whakatāne, and has been an influential leader in the region for many years.

Will is excited to work alongside our partners, iwi, hapū and whānau throughout the rohe, with a focus on fostering sustainable, culturally grounded partnerships that will help us achieve our mission of transforming lives through physical activity. We look forward to the positive impact Will hopes to continue to have in this important area.
