The professional development programme is designed to provide teachers with expert knowledge in the area of fundamental movement skills.
The intent of the programme is to motivate teachers to create active environments, as a result having an effect on the quality and quantity of physical activity opportunities for children. The professional development content of the programme focuses on providing teachers with games, activities and ‘tools’ that can be implemented immediately into classroom physical education or the wider school environments.
GO4it PD provides ideas in best practice environments and activity experiences which are unique and child appropriate. Any successful physical education programme emphasises active living with a focus on physical activity that is valued and integrated into daily life - Alberta Learning, 2000.
It is essential that children have an enjoyable experience of any activity in the physical education programme in order to be more likely to choose to be active later in life. “Enjoyable” may be defined in a variety of ways by various individuals.
Each workshop includes the following:
- Links to the curriculum
- Teaching games for understanding model and practical examples
- Fundamental movement skill activities
- Easy to implement games
- Creating a positive, fun environment.
