The Secondary Student Sport Council is being established to give a student voice to secondary school sport in the Bay of Plenty. The group will also promote and develop positive sport outcomes within schools and the local community.
The Sports Council will be made up of a selection of Year 12 and 13 students across the Central, Eastern, and Western Bay of Plenty. Applicants must be leaders among their peers and their contributions valuable to the success of school sport across the region.
The successful applicants will be selected based on their passion for sport, and desire and enthusiasm to encourage other students in their school and the wider region.
The Sports Council will be made up of no more than two sports enthusiasts from each school. Members will meet once a term to discuss physical education and sport-related issues, to ensure that students from all walks of life have their say in the organisation of upcoming events.
Representatives will be selected from a variety of codes, backgrounds, and schools to ensure that each area is represented on the council.
Sport Council projects include:
- Developing a vision around what sport means to our schools
- Lunchtime leaders
- Sport participation surveys
- BOP Sports Awards support
- Programme delivery
- Event delivery
- Secondary School Sport Newsletter
- NZ Teachers Games
- North Island School Sport Conference.
You must be willing to commit to all the meetings throughout the year and if you cannot attend you must notify the School Sport Team Leader Gareth Yates on firstname.lastname@example.org or 027 836 4006.

Stage 1: All interested Year 12 and 13 students will be given the opportunity to submit an Expression of Interest form (please see below). Each secondary school can nominate up to three students.
Stage 2: Successful and non-successful students will be informed by week 5 by email or contacted by phone.
Stage 3: Full council will commence in week 8 of Term 1.
