The Football season ahead

2013 is gearing up to be one hell of a year for football in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. This year will see the first season that WaiBOP football will run the junior game on a full time basis. In the November AGM the junior management committee for Eastern Bay was dissolved and all existing funds distributed between all the junior clubs. WaiBOP football would like to take this opportunity to thank Margaret Nillesen, Wendy Holden and Barrie Hawkes for their work within the junior game and of course all ex-presidents, secretaries and treasurers.

Junior Framework kicked off last season at Warren Park, Whakatane for all under 6 players from Whakatane clubs, Kawerau Juniors and Opotiki Juniors run in their own club hubs. After the successful launch the programme will expand this season with all under 6 and 7s playing at Warren Park or in their clubs hub. Kawerau and Opotiki will also be travelling over to Whakatane ever third week to add to the quality of the programme and to add fresh opposition.

The Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation Talent Centre squads have already been selected for terms 1 and 2 for the 2013 season, but there will be additional trials early July. Players who would like to be a part of the eastern bay representative programme need to contact their clubs. Trials will take place at the beginning of June and all nominations must come through the Eastern Bay junior clubs.

After the success of Futsal last season, the Eastern Bay will be hosting Futsal on Monday nights once again. The Term 1 programme started on 4th March at the War Memorial Hall Whakatane. 4pm – 5pm is for all Under 8 players, 5pm - 6.15pm for all Under 11 players and 6.15pm – 7.30pm is for the Under 13 league. Please contact Mike Ward for further information.

For all the coaches out there coach education will start late April and all coaching dates are on the WaiBOP website, www.waibop.co.nz.

If anyone has any football needs please do not hesitate to contact Mike Ward Eastern Bay of Plenty Football Development Officer on 021 321358 or mike.w@waibop.co.nz.
