Tauranga Hockey Association celebrates 100 years

Tuesday, September 1, 2020

Registration is open and plans are well underway for the weekend of 16, 17, 18 October 2020 to celebrate the Tauranga Hockey Association Centenary.

From hockey sticks resembling the shape of candy canes to the aerodynamic smooth accessories of today; from goalkeepers wearing cricket pads to the lightweight full body kits of today; from a long time home on the grassy fields of Pemberton Park to the fabulous Tauranga Hockey Centre boasting three international artificial playing surfaces. What an incredible 100 years it has been.

Friday night is registration night - meet and greet to kick things off and collect the weekend pack which includes a commemorative cotton bag, pen, wine glass and programme of events. It’s also an opportunity to browse the memorabilia and photos on display.

The centenary book is also included. This is an interesting read of events, happenings and the people who have been involved and represented Tauranga Hockey over the years.

Saturday daytime will feature games through various age groups plus the official opening of the third turf and then the Centenary dinner in the evening at Classic Flyers.

Sunday will feature age group games between Tauranga and Waikato.

Tauranga Hockey Association is looking forward to the company of some of our current and retired Black Sticks.

Sport brings people of all ages, stages and backgrounds together for camaraderie in a competitive environment. Not just the players, it also includes officials, coaches, management, and administrators and in the younger grades – the willing participation and support of parents.

Tauranga Hockey has a proud reputation on the national and international scene, often arguably punching above its weight against some of the larger associations in the country.

To register for this once in a hundred year celebration, please visit Registrations close 18 September.
