Success story: BayTrust Christine Tustain Scholarship recipient
Wednesday, February 14, 2018
Last November, Sport Bay of Plenty announced the recipients of the second round of 2017 BayTrust Athlete and Coach Scholarships - and we're pleased to announce our scholarship recipients are going great guns.
Duathlete Morgan Ball was awarded the Acorn Foundation Christine Tustain Scholarship for her determination against the odds in her chosen sporting code. She recently went to Christchurch to compete in the National Championships for the Standard Distance Duathlon (the distance she competes in internationally).
Here's an update in her own words:
"I had a great build up for the event and am currently at my strongest I have been in a long time. The course was very tough and my coach and I have been prepping for the last 3 months with lots and lots of hill training!"
"The race was a 5km run followed by a 40km bike and then a 10km run. The runs are generally the other way round with the 10km first and this would have suited me a lot better... My run legs were great and I managed to come away with the fastest female run splits for the 5km and 10km run legs, however the bike leg just wasn't my day and I lost a lot of ground.
"I managed to place 2nd in my age group and finish 3rd overall out of the females! I didn't expect an overall podium finish so I am really happy. This now ranks me 3rd fastest female over the Standard Distance Duathlon in NZ for 2018.
"I am now enjoying a week off training before I get stuck into it again with the World Standard Duathlon Champs as my next goal in July. Thanks for all your continued support!"
Well done Morgan and to all our 2017 BayTrust Athlete and Coach Scholarship recipients!
Applications are now open for our first round of BayTrust Athlete and Coach/Official scholarships for 2018. These scholarships recognise the athlete, coaching and officials talent found within the Bay of Plenty and are designed to assist high achieving people towards development in international competition.
