WAIBOP-Football

While it’s early February and the 2017 winter sports season may feel like it’s still a long way off, the WaiBOP Football team is already back in action and gearing up for another big year.

One of the early highlights is the FIFA Live Your Goals Festival, which is a week long, region wide, celebration of females in football. The festival is designed to connect more young girls and women with football, and create positive experiences and interaction with the game.

The Festival will begin with a full day Female Futsal Event at Tauranga’s ASB Arena on Saturday February 18. This event is open to girls and women of all ages and registrations are open now. The FIFA Live Your Goals Festival runs from February 18 to 26 and a full list of events (including registration details for the futsal event) is on our website at www.waibopfootball.co.nz/females/live-your-goals/

WaiBOP Football has a top class football development team and we offer courses across the region. The New Zealand Football Coach Education Pathway has courses available at all levels of the game including Junior, Youth, Senior, Goalkeeping and Futsal. Each course provides coaches with age appropriate learning to enhance their players experience and development in the game.

Our 2017 coach education calendar is now available. Aspiring coaches can find out more on the website: www.waibopfootball.co.nz/coaches/coaching-calendar/

For players looking to get in some extra training ahead of the season should check out our term 1 skill development courses. You’ll find out more about these courses here: www.waibopfootball.co.nz/players/community/skill-development/

Looking forward, our senior WaiBOP-wide leagues and local Bay of Plenty leagues begin on the weekend of April 1 and 2. Junior football kicks off in early May. Clubs are taking registrations now, so if you’re looking to play football in 2017 you should contact your local club. If you’re unsure of who to contact you should use the helpful Club Finder on the home page of our website: www.waibopfootball.co.nz/

We are pleased to welcome Mark Hester back to the WaiBOP team. Mark has taken on the newly created full time Referee Development Manager role. Based in Tauranga, Mark’s role will focus on recruitment, training and retention of referees through providing quality referee delivery and creating a positive environment for our referees. This is one of our key focus areas for 2017.
