SportsTalk: National and regional representation strong
Wednesday, November 8, 2017
After winning the promotion/relegation match in 2017, the Waikato Men’s Team, coached by Morgan Kutia, successfully played their way to the National Premiership final.
Competing in the top division in the country is tough, but the final showed some patches of brilliance from the team, with the win eventually going down to a more experienced team on the night.
Congratulations to the Waikato, and we hope to see you back in the final next season.
Meanwhile, at a regional level, the regional championship team successfully played their way to the promotion/relegation match, led and directed by coach Paniora Daniels.
From the National and Regional Championship Competitions, congratulations to players Jeremy Siulepa (BOP), Aaron Jolley, Dana Ratu and Darren Kingi (Waikato), who were selected into the NZ Residents side.
A further congratulations to the following teams and clubs who took out the 2018 competitions:
BOP / Coastline Combined Competition:
Senior Men’s – Pikiao
Senior Reserves – Otumoetai Eels
Senior Men’s – Taniwharau
Senior Reserves – Taniwharau
The Rugby League World Cup is currently underway, and the Zone has already hosted the Tonga vs Samoa game over the weekend. There is one more game this Saturday where the Kiwis take on Tonga.
For those of you who watched the game in person, or saw highlights on Sky or Facebook, this is the pinnacle event in Rugby League. The atmosphere was absolutely outstanding on Saturday night, where the nation and world saw two countries coming together to put on such a fantastic game.
The off-field hype was electric – the city of Hamilton certainly outdid itself and is no doubt gearing up for an even bigger spectacle this coming weekend. If you want to be a part of the action, tickets are still available online at www.rlwc.com
