Parafed Bay of Plenty is organising a Festival of Disability Sport at the ASB Arena Tauranga for two days on March 24-25, 2018.

Physically disabled athletes from throughout the country will compete in four sports: Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia and Blind Bowls in what will be a real showcase of skill.

We are working with the national bodies of the codes to provide what will be quite a unique opportunity to have a range of codes going at the same venue. The codes will be organising their own tournaments over the weekend, with Parafed Bay of Plenty hosting the venue and the awards evening on the Saturday night.

This will be a great opportunity for people to come and see a range of sports, and we are delighted that Paralympics, in partnership with ACC, are also hosting an Open Day at the same venue on the Sunday.

We expect at least 100 competitors over the two days and those competing will range from High Performance to grass root competitors. Sport can make a real difference to people’s lives and Parafed Bay of Plenty locally develops a range of sporting opportunities for physically disabled people.

I really encourage people to come along over the weekend and enjoy watching the range of sports we are showcasing.

We hope that this will become an annual event and that we can continue to add new sports each year. Definitely an event not to be missed!
