Sports Talk | Canoe Slalom
Monday, October 29, 2018
Written by Liz Fowler, Chairperson, Canoe Slalom Bay of Plenty
October sees the end of our representative canoe slalom season of competing in Europe. We’ve also had three young athletes just finish competition at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympics in mid-October.
Finn Anderson from Tauranga Boys’ College, Kahlia Cullwick from Mount Maunganui College and George Snook from Western Heights High School all qualified earlier this year for the Youth Olympics.
Canoeing at the Youth Olympics is made up of two canoeing disciplines - sprint and slalom. The athletes competed in both disciplines.

The three athletes had a very successful campaign in the slalom discipline with Finn winning a silver medal, George coming fourth and Kahlia seventh overall.
The results were recognition of the hard work that these athletes have done over the past year. They qualified in January 2018 to go to the Youth Olympic qualifiers in Barcelona in April, and then the three of them were successful with placings there to qualify for Buenos Aires.
A huge congratulations to Finn on his silver medal, and well done to George and Kahlia
