Sport Bay of Plenty’s recreation programme Play in the Bay and the NZCT AIMS GAMES International Sporting Championships have been announced as finalists in the 2013 New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards. These awards, organised by Sport New Zealand, recognise outstanding contributions to the sport and recreation sector at a national level.
The NZCT AIMS GAMES have been confirmed in the Event Excellence category – the event began ten years ago and has grown from 760 competitors representing 17 schools and four sporting codes to over 6,000 competitors representing 164 schools from throughout New Zealand and 2 Australian Schools and 16 codes in 2012. 2013 is building up to be an even bigger event and celebration of the NZCT AIMS GAMES.
The 2013 NZCT AIMS GAMES continues to be a strategic partnership between Sport Bay of Plenty, the four Western Bay Intermediate Schools and the Tauranga City Council and will be held from Sunday 15th September – Friday 20th September 2013. Event Director Vicki Semple says “The NZCT AIMS GAMES is a huge team effort across all codes. We are delighted to be named as a finalist alongside such a high calibre of events. “
Sport Bay of Plenty’s recreation programme - Play in the Bay has been confirmed in the Communications Excellence category. The programme began in March 2012, to provide a consolidated recreation programme across the Bay of Plenty. Sport Bay of Plenty Marketing Manager Melanie Short comments ”we knew our community wanted to do more, but there were certain barriers in place. We introduced Play in the Bay to counter these barriers and have developed a strong and consistent communication plan to encourage, support and inform people interested in getting out and about to Play in the Bay.”
Apart from Sport Bay of Plenty other Regional Sports Trusts were well represented across all award categories with Harbour Sport, Sport Wellington, Sport Tasman and Sport Waikato all finalists.
Winners will be announced at the New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards Dinner, held in Wellington on 15 April 2013.
