Find out who works at Sport Bay of Plenty through our weekly introductions..
Simone Rose - Keep on your Feet Support
Describe your role at Sport BOP in one sentence
I work on Sport Bay of Plenty’s ‘Keep on your Feet’ programme, which is part of a nationwide movement to reduce falls and fractures and support older people to live stronger for longer.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job and why?
Spending time with older adults, encouraging them to stay fit and active, and then seeing first-hand what a tremendously positive effect improving strength and balance has on their lifestyles. How can you not be inspired when seeing a 101 year old gentlemen taking part in our strength and balance classes?!!
What is the most challenging aspect and why?
Seeing the health related issues and lack of mobility some people struggle with as they age. Although I find this challenging, it also serves as a good reminder of the importance of staying active. It really is a matter of use it or lose it.
When you’re not working at Sport BOP, what do you like to get up to?
With 3 very energetic sons, life involves lots of activity so any given weekend is likely to include family mountain bike rides, rugby in the back yard, fishing, rushing between team sports…. and if I’m lucky, a little time out for me to enjoy a glass of wine and good book.
And for fun, if you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
A cloak of invisibility to hide from above mentioned energetic sons, so when I’m attempting to take a few minutes down-time, I’m saved from the endless “mum, come play rugby with me”, “mum, let’s go for another bike ride”.
