Find out who works at Sport Bay of Plenty through our weekly introductions.
Describe your role at Sport BOP in one sentence
I work in the community health section of Sport Bay of Plenty as a Green Prescription advisor and help people improve people's lifestyle through sustainable physical activity and nutritional changes. I also work as a Keep on Your Feet strength and balance programme co-ordinator to help improve access for older adults to approved community strength and balance classes.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job and why?
Helping people gain confidence and enjoy increasing their physical activity to experience an enhanced quality of life – regain their “zing”.
What is the most challenging aspect and why?
Sharing the positive feeling of “get up and go” which comes from living in a healthier body.
When you’re not working at Sport BOP, what do you like to get up to?
Extended family (especially one month old granddaughter), and friend time is very precious.
Off road walking tracks; mountain biking; landscape photography; gardening and indoors I enjoy instructing RPM indoor bike sessions & gym workouts. Also, relaxing at the movies, reading a good book, watching Coronation Street (no laughing!).
And for fun, if you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
Leap off tall buildings and survive, I am “height-phobic” and the mere thought turns my legs to jelly.
And anything else you would like to add about yourself that may be of interest?
“Too old” does not feature in my vocabulary. “Make It Happen” does, which was the name of our team successfully completing the Taupo 100km Oxfam walk. And more importantly, not that I watch much TV but coming to terms with the catch-up episodes of Coronation Street (so many new characters) – traumatised!
