Find out who works at Sport Bay of Plenty through our weekly introductions.
Describe your role at Sport Bay of Plenty
I'm a Youth Engagement Advisor in Whakatane - a role that offers variety and requires young people to work together in achieving common goals.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job and why?
To see people achieve what they set out to do. These people are prepared to make sacrifices. They are the ones who finally see that getting what you want sometimes requires you to things that you wouldn’t normally do.
What is the most challenging aspect and why?
My patience. Sometimes I have to give the young people time to ingest, process and act on the information provided.
When you’re not working at Sport Bay of Plenty, what do you like to get up to?
I enjoy hunting, pigs or deer doesn’t really matter - as long as I’m out there. Both are very different in application. In one discipline you’re trying to stealth through the bush with the wind at your face. In the other you and your dog are teaming up to get some pork for the table.
And for fun, if you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
What Super power? – guess next week’s lotto numbers
Why? – then I could hunt all week.
And anything else you would like to add about yourself that may be of interest?
I also own my own business “Fitness Tumeke” and this keeps me busy. My wife and I both work full time and therefore run a pretty tight schedule. The time we do get to spend together is generally spent planning in advance.
