Beautiful day for Ultimate Frisbee a little windy towards the end of the day. This year we had eight teams that were all worthy of the trophy.
Edgecumbe College new school to the event they did extremely well overall coming 5th they will be a team to watch in the future the athletes displayed skill and speed through out there games. The skills on display from quick feet to Ariel action catching the disc in the air. Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that is self-referee this is always challenging in any sport – the students did well as this would be the first sport in our calendar that was decided by the students.
It’s about the spirt of game students do get spirt points that contribute to the most spirted player of the tournament as this year it came from Mount College Lahleaia Reriti and Cole Scott Whakatane H.S. MVP of the tournament was tied between 4 players on the girls side and 4 from the boys that was awesome.
The overall, winner was Katikati college the boys have been together now for a few years and were too good on the day for Whakatane high School first time finalist. It was intense in parts but the quickness and skill of the Katikati boys was just exceptional these boys will be off to nationals in a few weeks representing the BOP.
Thank you to all the Mount Maunganui Ultimate Volunteers who helped make this event happen: Stacey Linton, Qi-Wern Lim (Chi Chi), Ruth Love, Shula Newland, Caroline D'Mello, Matt McGregor, Jacob Tapiata & Michael Kramer.
Thank you also to all the players, teachers, coaches and supporters who made it such a fun & successful tournament!
