How Green Prescription helped Andria be more active
Tuesday, November 9, 2021
After a serious injury six years ago, Andria Goodliffe found herself inactive but eager to get back on track. Thanks to support from the Green Prescription programme she has now returned to leading an active lifestyle.
Despite feeling anxious about joining the Green Prescription programme, Andria persevered and was able to build her confidence and stamina by connecting with various walking groups. Her new-found confidence also helped her complete the Mauao Challenge - a guided walking challenge led by Green Prescription advisors and spread over several weeks to help participants reach the summit of Mauao.
Andria described her experience with Green Prescription as like bumping into an old friend who then chats to you and talks you into going for a walk somewhere.
"You just come in, chat through what things I used to do and what things I thought might be a good thing to do again, and be encouraged to just get on and do it."
Sport Bay of Plenty's green prescription advisor Lucy Horne says Andria is now a role model for others and she motivates and encourages them to keep going.
"It's just great to see how she has blossomed into a new person with an enthusiasm for life an all that it offers."
