Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Residents from rest homes around the Western Bay of Plenty proved that age is no barrier on Wednesday in Sport Bay of Plenty’s annual Rest Home Games at ASB Baypark.
Clapping, cheering and laughter could be heard as 18 rest homes and 180 residents from around the Western Bay of Plenty took part in the event.
“It was the most fun I’ve had in years,” said one participant.
Teams dressed up in themes and participated in modified games such as noodle hockey, balloon volleyball, ten pin bowling, cup stacking, boccia, ring toss and balloon badminton.
The gold medal winner was the team from Cedar Manor Rest Home, silver was awarded to Carter House and the bronze medal to Aspen Lifecare. The Bob Owens Retirement Village won the best dressed prize and Melrose House won the best spirit award.
Special thank you to sponsors Legacy Trust and ASB Baypark, as well as the Sport Bay of Plenty team for their help in making the event a success.
