Fundraising and freezing cold waters... Papamoa Unlimited's third annual Polar Plunge is back on Sunday 30 July, as a way to help raise funds for local not-for-profit community groups - including sports clubs and teams.
Registrations for the Polar Plunge are by gold coin and open from 10.30am at Papamoa Domain in front of Bluebiyou restaurant on event day. Plunge time is 11am and the winner of the $1000 cash will be drawn from the pool of participants. All plunge entrants must get completely under the water to secure their place in the draw.
Event Manager Kate Percy says, “It is a great opportunity for people to come together in the spirit of giving back to the community. Hosting an event that encourages and teaches our children (and adults) about working together for greater good is really special.”
While the money will certainly make a difference for the winners, Mrs Percy says the real value is in the community spirit that is conjured as a result such teamwork.
"Schools, sports clubs, community organisations, individuals and businesses alike are invited and challenged to join forces in pursuit of the prize money."
Papamoa Beach Tavern will warm up participants with free soup, hot chocolates and giveaways immediately after the plunge.
