Tom wanted to connect with people, Valerie wanted to live life to the fullest and Robert wanted to get his strength back - all these are their reasons for getting active - their ‘why’s’.
One of the perks of working in the Green Prescription team is we get to hear amazing stories from people who have successfully taken on the challenge of setting up and leading a healthy lifestyle. Their shared joy and varying accounts of the rewards they have reaped from leading a healthy lifestyle, is what gets the Green Prescription team out of bed in the morning.
Green Prescription is a six-month starter programme. Each person referred to the programme is linked to an advisor who works alongside them on their health journey. The advisor shares their knowledge and provides support and motivation. People who have undertaken the Sport Bay of Plenty programme often report an increase in energy, feeling st
ronger and fitter, a decrease in weight, and sometimes a decrease in medication but nine times out of ten they always report feeling better overall.
Yes, we support people on their health journey, providing information and motivation to help them increase their physical activity and make regular healthy food choices. However, we all agree the secret to success comes from within. Changing habits, eating different foods and including regular exercise in your day is not easy. Tapping into your ‘why’ is the crux to overcoming challenges and sticking to the path that is your unique journey to improved health. Once you identify what the reason is to prioritise physical activity and nutritional changes you need to keep reminding yourself of your why. This will get you through the hard times and before you know it, you will be on the other side.
Cliff wanted to be there for his mokopuna, Maggie no longer wanted to be ashamed of her appearance in public, Charles wanted to inspire his community to take on their journey to health and we have lots and lots more stories like this on the Green Prescription page on our website www.sportbop.co.nz
