To celebrate World Diabetes Day on Wednesday November 14, the Rotorua branch of Diabetes New Zealand, together with Sport Bay of Plenty, are hosting a Whānau Festivity Day.
Come along for the teddy bears picnic or to get involved in some of the many activities on offer. This free event is suitable for anyone affected by Type 1 or 2 diabetes and their friends, family or support network.
When: 14 November, 3:30 - 6pm
Where: Rotorua Village Green
Activities and vendors:
Information will be available on heart health care and diabetes + some free recipe booklets to help provide you inspiration in the kitchen.
At 4.15pm- 5pm Josh Te Kowhai from Waikite Gym will be holding a free boxing class, make sure you're there to check it out.
Te Papa Takoro O Te Arawa
Will be hosting a range of traditional sporting games. Get a group together and come along and get amongst it. Session times for the games are 3.50pm – 4.30pm; 4.35pm – 5.15pm; and 5.20pm – 6.00pm
Mountain Bike Rotorua
Will have a range of mountain bikes in different sizes for everyone to have a go as you try to accomplish the track they have created.
All about me Wellness –
At 5.30pm, join Kahira for whānau based roopu training. Regardless of fitness levels we welcome all, bring your tamariki. All for a gold coin koha.
Bay of Plenty Rugby
From 4.30pm – 5.30pm the Bay of Plenty Under 19s National Champions will be at the BOP Rugby Gazebo so come and say hi and get involved in their interactive games.
Come and meet Mary, Tim and the team from Tane Takitu Ake. Have a chat and be sure to stick around for their Zumba activity. The Pakaru Tinana group from Instinctive Fitness will also be present to talk to anyone over 65 interested in trying their fun exercise class.
Ka Pai Kai
Will be selling some healthy refreshments to keep you going as you try out all the activities on offer.
Healthy boil up demonstration, samples and information sheet. Also providing information on bowel screening.
Rotorua Lakes Council
The Cyway team will be present with a range of bikes to have a go at cycling. While you’re there why not jump on their smoothie bike and make yourself a healthy snack?!
Lions Groups Rotorua
Will be providing volunteer support for the afternoon and will also be selling healthy refreshments.
First aiders on the day
Plus teddy bears picnic and free games including tug of war, egg and spoon race, potato sack races and three legged race.
