Grab your bike and try something new! With a range of events across Bike Month, from beginner to advanced, there's something for everyone. Most events are free - just check the event description for details and to see if registrations are required.

Whakatāne Cycle Club rides

Pak n Save carpark, King St, Whakatāne

Anyone interested in joining the club or wanting to know more about club rides contact Paul. Beginner riders are welcome. Ride calendars are available from the Whakatāne Cycle Centre. Contact Paul Wills: Ph 027 454 1225.


Chain Gang Social Bike Rides

Various locations


Join the Chain Gang regular social rides and explore different trails in the EBOP area. Stay for a coffee afterwards, everyone welcome. Phone Jannie Brown the Sunday before to find where the meeting point is. Ph 021 345 647.


Ōpōtiki Cycling Group Handicap Series

Woodlands School, Dip Road, Woodlands, Ōpōtiki

Come along and have a go. We have a handicap system enabling junior and senior riders an even chance. Juniors 9 to 14 years and Senior 15 years and over are all welcome. Contact Denis Lindesay on 07 315 6140 or to register.


Summer Bike Fun Day - OPOTIKI

Ōpōtiki Girls on Wheels

Meet at the Ōpōtiki fire station car park every Sunday (except the first Sunday of the month). We go on rides suitable to the abilities of the group that turn up. Electric bikes are welcome. We're a friendly group of supportive ladies of all ages and abilities (males are welcome too!). Cafe visit afterwards.

Superheroes on Bikes

Pump track at Memorial Park, Ōpōtiki

Calling all Under 5 superheroes! Come dressed as your favourite superhero and prepare to race. Categories are balance bikes, trainer wheel bikes, and no trainer wheel bikes. $2 -everyone wins a medal.


Ladies Bike Maintenance Class

Whakatāne Cycle Centre, Boon St, Whakatāne

Beginner Mountain Bike Skills workshop

An opportunity to upskill and gain more confidence to mountain bike on our local trails with a qualified mountain bike coach. Beginners and early intermediate riders welcome. Whakatāne Schools Cycle Challenge

Schools are invited to participate in a Cycle Challenge with a variety of activities involving bike safety, tricks and activities in teams of 10 for Year 5/6 students. To register contact Richard Hamer, ph 027 325 7792.


Warren Cole Walkway Scavenger Hunt

Warren Cole Walkway, Landing Rd Bridge to the Heads, Whakatāne


Take the family and cycle the walkway while answering the clues. All entries completed in February go into the draw to win a $150 voucher from Whakatāne Cycle Centre. Complete in your own time.
