Sport Development

Improving the capability of regional Sport

Sarah WalkerThe Sport Development team works together to improve the capability of Regional Sport in the Bay of Plenty in a number of different ways.

We assist Regional Sporting Organisations (RSO's), clubs and schools to become more efficient and effective organisations in the delivery of sport. We work alongside them and assist to develop systems and structures that will ensure they achieve their goals and are sustainable in the future. This help includes work on strategic plans, position descriptions for committees, project development with councils, coach development and volunteer training. See the News and Resources section below for useful information on Sport Development.

For more information on how we can help Sport Development in the Bay of Plenty, contact the Sport Development Team Leader or Sport Development Coordinator whose details are located in The Staff section of this website.

Recognising Achievements

Sport Bay of Plenty recognises the contribution volunteers make to the sector as well as the outstanding achievements of Bay of Plenty athletes. These are highlighted through a variety of recognition strategies: the annual Bay of Plenty Sports Awards, Watties Coach of the Year Awards, ASB Secondary Schools Athlete and Coach of the Month Awards and through BayTrust Sports Scholorships.

For more information on Recognising Achievements in the Bay of Plenty, contact the Sport Development Team Leader whose details are located in The Staff section of this website.

CoachForce

Sport Bay of Plenty facilitate and manage a CoachForce programme which pulls together the power of 15 sports organisations, with the support of Bay Trust, SPARC and other community funders to give more people in the Bay of Plenty a great coaching experience. Results for events are updated in a timely fashion and can be found under the Sport Development Latest News Section below.

The Primary School Sports Calendar and Secondary Schools Sports Calendar provide information on events coming up for school aged children. To contact our Schools Sports Coordinators go to the Staff section of this site.

Fundamental Skills

Sport Bay of Plenty, in conjunction with the BayTrust, have acknowledged the need for a fundamental skills delivery programme for teachers and parents in the middle to late childhood sector in the Bay of Plenty region. Fundamental Skills are an integral part of the physical development of young children. It is important that these skills are developed at an early age, ideally between the ages of 5-9 years old. These skills wil give children a platform in which they can enjoy and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activity for the rest of their lives. More information and Resources on Fundamental Skills are available in the News and Resources Sections below.

If you would like the opportunity to professionally develop your teacher's, coaches or parents and give children fundamental skills for life, please contact the CoachForce Fundamental Skills Officer whose details are located in The Staff section of this website.

The Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme

The Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme is committed to ensuring people with a disability can participate in inclusive sport and and active leisure within their community.

For more information on Sport Opportunity visit the No Exceptions section of this website or contact the Sport Opportunity Advisor whose details are located in The Staff section of this website.
