GO4it Get Ready for School
Go4it Get Ready for School is a fun, movement based programm
e that helps develop fundamental movement skills. These ensure children have the ability, strength and coordination to participate in more formal sport by the time they go to school.
Fundamental Movement Skills are movement patterns that involve different body parts such as the legs, arms, body and head, and include skills like running, hopping, catching, throwing, hitting and balancing.
They are the foundation or building blocks to more specialised, skills used in play games, sports, dance, gymnastics, outdoor education and physical recreation activities.
As children develop fundamental movement skills they strengthen neural pathways which assists in all aspects of learning – from reading and writing to language, social development and physical fitness.
Development of Fundamentals ensures children have the ability to participate in and most importantly enjoy sport and recreation by the time they start school.
Go4it Get ready for School is designed for children under the age of five and links perfectly to Go4it being delivered in primary schools across the Bay of Plenty.
Go4it is coordinated by Sport Bay of Plenty and delivered by regional sports organisations to primary aged children in school. It aims to up skill students, parents, teachers and coaches in fundamental movement skills.
