Sport Bay of Plenty
has signaled its intention to be the LEAD AGENCY with regard to providing information and support to the physical activity and sport sector in the Bay of Plenty.
To achieve this goal we will need to work collaboratively with a vast number of stakeholders throughout Bay of Plenty, working together to make a difference.
We will also need to have people involved within our organization who have the knowledge, experience and passion to LEAD the sector, and as such are looking for the right people to join the team and make it happen.
Sport Bay of Plenty - School Sport Team Leader
Sport Bay of Plenty is seeking an exceptional School Sport Team Leader to work across the Bay of Plenty region. This new position will be responsible for leading the School Sport team and in doing so provide the strategic direction and support for School Sport in the Bay of Plenty. The role would lead a team of four event coordinators, provide support to the School Sport Coordinator network, and manage the new KiwiSport initiative in the Bay of Plenty. Experience and knowledge of the education sector and/or the sporting sector is preferable. Exceptional organisational and communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships and partnerships with schools, sporting organisations, and the wider sporting community are essential. HALBERG TRUST - Sport Opportunity Advisers x 2
Community and School advisors required to provide strategic input into clubs, recreation facilities and schools for the inclusion of disabled people in sporting events and activity programmes. Located at Sport Auckland, Greenlane Founded by Sir Murray Halberg over 40 years ago, the Halberg Trust has twin aims:
- Honouring sporting excellence
- Providing opportunities for people with a disability to participate in sport and recreation
Halberg Trust’s office is at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland, where there are five staff. The three Regional Managers are spread down the country. The sporting excellence aim is achieved via the annual Westpac Halberg Awards, New Zealand’s pre-eminent sporting awards. The disability and sport aim is primarily achieved through The Sport Opportunity programme. The work of this programme, supported by Sparc, is mainly carried out by Sport Opportunity Advisors (SOAs) who are funded by Halberg Trust and employees of Regional Sports Trusts (RSTs). From 2010 a new ‘Auckland project’ is being implemented, in which the Trust will directly employ SOAs to serve the Auckland area. In addition, Halberg Trust has recently become a Sparc ‘Lead Agency’, meaning that the Trust receives additional funding to invest in National Sports Organisations and Parafeds to achieve Sparc’s disability aims. This represents an exciting opportunity for the Trust. Halberg Trust also has an Activity Fund which supports young people with a disability to participate in sport and recreation, e.g. lessons and camps, or purchase equipment that removes barriers to participation. The SOAs will be based at Sport Auckland, Alexandra Park Function Centre, Greenlane Auckland. The successful applicants for the Community and Clubs role will be;
- Providing effective strategic input to clubs and recreation facilities for the inclusion of disabled people into sport and physical activity programmes
- Assisting coaches, recreation providers and administrators to actively encourage disabled people to participate in sport events and competitions
- Providing training and support to coaches and recreation providers to include disabled people in sport and physical activity
- Ensuring communication and reporting processes are effectively carried out
- Developing and implementing strategies to promote and increase the profile of the Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme
- Working with clubs and recreation facilities and related organisations to develop and promote an ‘inclusion ethos’ within their organisations and programmes
- Working with the Auckland SOAs and other staff to achieve sponsor and funder commitments
- Passionate about working in the area of disability and sport, have a strong sense of responsibility, be a team player, have an ability to plan, implement and monitor outcomes (Computer skills needed ) and have a clean drivers licence.
- Experienced with club and recreation facilities and operations The successful applicants for the Schools role will be;
- Providing effective strategic input to schools for the inclusion of disabled students into sport and physical education programmes
- Assisting teachers, teacher aids and sports coordinators to actively encourage disabled students to participate in inter-school sport events and competitions
- Providing training and support to teachers, teacher aids and sports coordinators to include disabled students in sport, physical education and physical activity
- Ensuring communication and reporting processes are effectively carried out
- Developing and implementing strategies to promote and increase the profile of the Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme
- Working with schools and related organisations, for example College Sport (Auckland Secondary Schools Heads Association- ASSHA) to develop and promote an ‘inclusion ethos’ within their organisations and programmes
- Passionate about working in the area of disability and sport, have a strong sense of responsibility, be a team player, have an ability to plan, implement and monitor outcomes (Computer skills needed ) and have a clean drivers licence.
