Disability Sport
Sport Bay of Plenty supports Disability Sport through The Halberg Trusts' Sport Opportunity programme.
The Sport Opportunity Advisor works with teachers, coaches, community groups and Sport BOP staff, advocating for people with a disability to participate in physical activity of their choice. School staff, club coaches and organisations can access FREE professional development and resources through the No Exceptions training programme.
Sport Bay of Plenty staff ensure school and community events have opportunities for people with a disability to participate. Working alongside Rotorua Trust, TECT, Special Olympics, Parafed Bay of Plenty and many clubs, we are able to link people to specific disabled sports.

THE HALBERG TRUST ACTIVITY FUND
The Halberg Trust will fund those costs over and above what it would cost for an able-bodied child to participate. The fund is to provide an introduction to community sport, recreation and physcial activity in an inclusive environment that has a sustainable future. This means they will not pay for costs associated with an activity if they are exactly the same as it would be for a child without a disability.
Applicants can apply for:
- Product/Equipment
- Activity/Lessions/Skill development
- School Camps
