Sport Bay of Plenty currently lead the Sport New Zealand Regional Talent Development Hub as part of the national Pathway to Podium initiative.
The Pathway to Podium programme is proudly supported by BayTrust CoachForce, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and multiple sporting providers across the Bay of Plenty region.
This great team provide facilities, services and athlete support systems to support athletes on the Pathway To Podium Programme who reside in the trust area.
The overall objective of the “Pathway to Podium” programme is to establish a partnership between National Sport Organisations (NSO's) and Regional Talent Hubs that provides athlete development support to emerging athletes in the pre-High Performance environment. The objective of the Regional Talent Hubs is to assist NSO's with delivery of regionally based generic athlete and coach support.
The “Pathway to Podium” programme is designed primarily to provide a regionally based high quality support and education programme for nationally (NSO) identified pre-carded athletes (1-3 year time frame) in the following sports:
- Football (Women)
- Hockey (Men and Women)
- Rugby 7’s (Women)
It is envisaged that athletes will be in engaged in the programme for 2 years, occasionally 3 in extenuating circumstances, for example (long term injury) before hopefully moving through to working with High Performance Sport NZ carded programme.
The Bay of Plenty Pathway to Podium Programme will provide services around the Development of Individual Performance Plans, Athlete Life, Performance Hydration and Nutrition, Physiotherapy Screening, Sports Injury Management, Strength and Conditioning, Media/Social Media and a comprehensive resource library.
Entry into the programme takes place in April each year and is expressly through your National Sporting Organisation Performance Directors and then endorsed by Sport NZ. No applications are accepted regionally.
