Active Schools – Primary and Intermediate
Physical activity experiences are an integral part of human development. They contribute to children’s physical heath and well being, growth, personal development and self-esteem. For children, being physically active means playing. Children are active during Physical Education lessons at school, soccer practice, or dance class. They're also physically active during break times, throwing balls, or playing tag. The benefits for children can be physical, mental and social. Most importantly, participation in all aspects of physical activity must be fun.
Active Schools is an initiative focusing on Primary and Intermediate schools to get more 5-12 year olds more active more often. Active Schools Facilitators work with the entire school community to create an environment which supports sustainable, quality physical activity opportunities.
