Active Movement

Active Movement - Early Childhood

A SPARC initiative (Sport and Recreation New Zealand); Active Movement is designed to promote the benefit of quality, physical activity to the Under Fives.

Our children are born to move. Movement enhances every aspect of children’s development. Experiences in the early years impact on how a person moves and thinks later in life.

Active Movement encourages children to get the basics right before focusing on one particular skill, sport or activity. As children achieve more conscious control of their movement, they begin to develop their fundamental skills; the foundation for more specialised skills used to play complex games, sport, dance and other physical recreation.

SBOP has an Active Movement Advisor who facilitates workshops designed to encourage fun, quality activity by supporting Educators, Parents and Community Groups. The workshops are free, fun and interactive and come with lots of resources to use at home or in Early Childhood settings.
