INCREASING THE ACTIVITY LEVELS OF YOUNG PEOPLE

Sport Bay of Plenty facilitates workshops designed to encourage fun, quality activity for the Under Fives. These workshops are aimed at supporting Educators, Parents and other Community Groups. The workshops are free, fun and interactive.

The Early Childhood Advisor works Bay of Plenty wide and offers a wide variety of workshops with topics ranging from the importance of crawling to ideas promoting the development of fundamental skills in preschoolers.

WHY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR THE UNDER FIVES?

Our children are born to move!

A baby’s brain is only 15% developed at birth but 85% developed at age 3.
Movement provides vital pathways in the young child’s brain; the richer the experiences, the more intricate patterns for learning, thought and creativity will be established.

Positive active experiences impact on how children move and think for the rest of their lives. The more pathways established; the more efficiently the brain can function.

Physical activity experiences in the first five years encourage children to get the basics right before focusing on one particular skill, sport or activity.

They begin to develop fundamental skills which are the foundation for more specialised skills used to play complex games, sport, dance and other physical recreation.
